A GLANCE INTO THE PAST
banana
a glance into the past
russian
foto where glance The birthday of Palmar as an international banana exporter is to be considered March 26 of 1996 when we loaded our first ship “AQUILA-2”, which took the course to St. Petersburg with a cargo of 125,000 “Galapagos” brand banana boxes on board. At that moment, all of Palmar's operational headquarters were located in two rooms of a small office in the town of El Guabo – the center of El Oro province, where the best bananas in Ecuador are grown. The second ship sent by us to Russia was already loaded with our traditional brand – “Pretty Liza”.

glance1Regardless of the fact that for many years now we have been an international company and have worked with various receivers of Eastern and Western Europe and the Mediterranean, all of Palmar's history is somehow tied to the development of the Russian and Eastern-European banana markets.

Here, we are pleasant to mention our first senior partner – the KOMMIKcompany and, personally, Mr. Slavii Koliada, who gave us the initial acceleration and who we consider, by right, one of the founding-fathers of Palmar.

In different years we have been the basic and exclusive banana providers for all, without exclusion, companies which today define the face of the Russian banana market. Such companies as SUNWAY, SORUS, and JFC grew and developed with us. Even today we are in the same boat with them, though rowing with different paddles.
The most important experience we have acquired during the last three years has been from our partners of the European Community. We are proud to have learned from traditional and experienced banana operators who revealed to us the banana business from a side we have never seen before. We tried to absorb the best traditions and rules of that business and apply it to our operations in Russia and other “savage” markets. It might seem unbelievable, but it works! Eight years gone, we must conclude that we were lucky to have worked with most of our commercial partners, with few exceptions that are not worth mentioning.

glance2 Romantically speaking, we could compare the path taken by our company to the flow of a mountain river, which at its source and tempestuous beginnings threw us up and down and in different directions, but with time, as it appears, has brought its waters onto a flat land and now carries us calmly and freely, but at the same time not any less swiftly as in the past.

A detailed description of Palmar's story is obviously still waiting for its worthy describer. We, however, from our side, hope to continue this story for many years to come.
